A Summer Solstice in Sweden

C2

Catherine visited Sweden during midsummer, a celebration she had heard about but never truly understood. Her Swedish friend invited her to their countryside home, where the festivities began with decorating a maypole and making flower crowns. The day was filled with games, dancing, and a traditional meal of pickled herring, potatoes, and strawberries. As the midnight sun hovered in the sky, Catherine realized how the long, light-filled day symbolized joy and renewal for Swedes after the dark winter months. She left Sweden feeling a newfound respect for how different cultures celebrate nature and life.
