The Talking Parrot

Maya’s uncle gave her a parrot for her birthday. “Teach it to he said. Maya named the parrot Rico and said, “Hello, Rico!” every morning. But Rico just squawked. Weeks passed, and Maya gave up. “You’ll never talk, Rico.” One day, Maya came home from school, and Rico surprised her. “Hello, Maya!” the parrot said. Maya jumped. “You can talk!” After that, Rico didn’t stop talking. He said funny things like, “What’s for dinner?” and “Where’s my snack?” Maya laughed every day thanks to Rico, her clever parrot.
