Personal Pronouns: Who Are You Talking About?
Personal pronouns are words we use to replace names. They help us avoid repeating the same name over and over. Imagine if you had to say, "Sarah is here. Sarah is my friend. Sarah loves pizza"—that would get repetitive, right? So, we use pronouns to make sentences flow smoothly!
Here are the personal pronouns:
I – talking about yourself.
Example: I am happy.
You – talking to someone else.
Example: You are awesome!
He – talking about a male person.
Example: He loves soccer.
She – talking about a female person.
Example: She likes chocolate.
It – talking about things, animals, or ideas.
Example: It is raining. (Talking about the weather)
Example: It is my dog. (Talking about an animal)
We – talking about yourself and others.
Example: We are going to the park.
They – talking about more than one person or thing.
Example: They are playing together.
Possessive Adjectives: Who Owns What?
Possessive adjectives are words that show ownership or possession. They tell us who something belongs to. Just like when you say, "That’s my pizza," you’re using a possessive adjective to show that the pizza belongs to you!
Here are the possessive adjectives:
My – something that belongs to you (the speaker).
Example: This is my book.
Your – something that belongs to someone you’re talking to.
Example: Is this your pencil?
His – something that belongs to a male person.
Example: That’s his car.
Her – something that belongs to a female person.
Example: Is this her jacket?
Its – something that belongs to a thing or animal.
Example: The dog is playing with its toy.
(Note: "Its" doesn’t need an apostrophe. "It’s" is a contraction of "it is.")
Our – something that belongs to you and others.
Example: This is our house.
Their – something that belongs to them (more than one person or thing).
