The Road to Independence

C1

Olha was a teacher in Lviv during the final days of Soviet rule. She joined peaceful protests, wrote poetry about freedom, and taught her students about Ukrainian history, which was often suppressed.
When Ukraine declared independence in 1991, Olha felt a surge of hope. She and her neighbors celebrated in the streets, singing the national anthem and waving blue-and-yellow flags.
Olha spent the rest of her life teaching the next generation about the importance of independence, ensuring that they understood the sacrifices made by those who came before them.
